COMANCHES IN THE 21st CENTURY
CAMILO'S COMANCHE … A DREAM MACHINE Camilo Saiz lives in Bogota, Columbia, and owns a Comanche180. He dreamed his airplane could do better … and he set out to make it happen. .
One thing he needed was a mighty power plant … and some airframe modifications to make his Comanche go faster ... and higher. He wanted things that had not been tried before … things that would be totally new for a Comanche. Camilo wanted almost twice the horsepower he had in his 180. He found it in an engine from a Navaho … a turbo TIO-540 … 350 horsepower. And his propeller came from Germany … an MT Propeller with four blades. Some photos show the result
A TIO-540 is now mated to the 180 airframe, complete with turbocharger and four blade propeller. Innovative airframe mods were added before new paint was applied. A sleek new wing root fairing and a rudder tip extension are shown in the photo above. The Dream Machine's interior was brought into the 21st Century, too, as you will see.
