ROT: T.O.: increase sea level T.O. distance 12% for each 1000' DA to 6000' and increase it 14% above 6000'
OPTIMUM GLIDE SPEED
Reduce speed 5% for each 10% decrease in gross weight
Use same indicated A/S at all density altitudes
With 10-20-30 knot tail wind decrease by 4,6,8 respectively
Into headwind: increase A/S by 50% of headwind comp.
For max endurance or min sink, fly at 75% glide speed
WEATHER OPERATIONS
Avoid Fronts
Avoid E or NE of Lows or suspected developing Lows
Eastbound, fly north of a high, westbound, deviate south
Look for 10d+Temp/dew point spread at destination
Preferable to fly during day (not at night)
Convective activity usually begins later in the day.
Don´t fly if precipitation is reported along route
Winds around fronts, Highs & Lows, Thunderstorms
Low: Counter clockwise & inward
High: Clockwise and outward
Warm: North of: Southeasterly
South of: Southwesterly
Cold: East of: Southwesterly
West of: Westerly or Northwesterly
Becoming stationary: Northerly or Northeasterly
Thunderstorms: Fly around the right side for tailwinds
Wind Shear: Winds enroute/destination calm
Cold front moving 30 knots or more at ETA
Warm front (temp drop off of only 10d possible)
Thunderstorms
Icing-12d to -20dC in clouds: Rime Ice
In Clouds ³12d: Snow may Accrete
Weather Vectors Enroute
1. Engauge Weather 2 key
2. Vector clears of any "H"s
With ASR-9
1. Configure 1 & 2 as dim
2. Configure 3-6 as bright
3. Vector around bright areas
OPTIMUM FLIGHT SPEED (Max & Very Long Range Cruise)
VMR: Vs1(adjusted for A/C weight) * 1.8 94-106-115
VLRC: VMR * 1.07 100-113-123
Headwind: If HW comp is > 25% of VLRC
for each 5 knots it exceeds VLRC, increase TAS by 2 knots
Tailwind: Decrease TAS 1 knot for each 2 knots of tailwind comp. but not below 80% of VLRC
